FEEDING AND ASSISTING OUR NEIGHBORS

HavenTotesONE PERSON AT A TIME

"Working in partnership with Tucson Schools, Haven Totes offers free weekend food to disadvantaged school children as well as food boxes for the holidays. Child hunger poses significant physical and mental health consequences that ultimately affect learning outcomes. Haven Totes works to ultimately offer hope in turning around the negative cycles of poverty by enhancing the child's well-being while simultaneously positively impacting the families."

The Palo Verde family has joined forces with other city churches and organizations to help address the issue of hunger amongst the school-aged children in our neighborhoods. Together we fill backpacks with nutritional, easy to make meals that can be prepared by the child. The backpacks are sent home with children who are on free or reduced lunches during the school week but do not have access to healthy choices in foods at home during the weekends. The child gets a full backpack on Friday and brings it back empty on Monday.

There are many ways that you can be involved with this ministry. You can help financially with your donations. It costs about $30 per child per month to fill the backpacks. You can sponsor one or more children. It also takes people to purchase the food, organize it and stuff the backpacks. If you want to be a part of this program in any way please contact Diane Reminder or one of the elders.
